I Need An Organizer

Most of you might know that I am now a junior in high school and, as most of you might also know, the grades I get this year are very crucial as they will be the grades to be looked at by the universities and colleges I apply to for college. Currently, I stick post-its in my binder to remind myself of the stuff I have to do for school, and while it hasn’t failed yet, I’m afraid that I might overlook an item (an important item at that) in my list and if that happens, then I might not get grades as high as I want them to be. So yeah, I need an organizer.

I don’t really need those daily organizers as I do not have that much to do in a day. I tried a monthly organizer before and it wasn’t a very good idea. I kept on losing track as to which things need to be done now and which of those can be delayed at a later time (heehee). I think that I would work best with a weekly one.

Despite knowing which kind of planner would work out best for me, I completely have no idea as to what planner to get. I need help. Can anyone recommend me nice, affordable weekly planners? If possible, please provide a link to the product itself. :)

PS: Do you think I should just make one myself? I’ve seen a handful of self-made planners and they work just as fine as store-bought ones. What do you guys think?

I have an 18-month weekly Moleskine. If you want one, I would recommend buying it right now, since it started on June 29, so you’d only be missing about a week if you got it soon. :D I love my Moleskine a lot. The left page has spaces for all the days, and right side is a blank page that you can use to make lists, doodle, whatever. Mine was $15 CAD off of Amazon – a *bit* expensive, but not cripplingly so, and worth it, IMO.

I second Clem’s comment. The next organizer I get after my current one ends in December will definitely be a Moleskine.

If you want something a bit less pricey, though, just go to your local bookstore or stationery store and look through the organizer section. Or if your school sells planners, get one of those (I did that throughout most of middle and high school; school planners may be ugly, but they work).

I wouldn’t make my own planner, but that’s just because I’m lazy :p

I was also about to suggest a Moleskine. It’s a bit more pricey, but you can “hack” it to your own needs. Look it up on google “moleskine hacks” and you’ll get a lot of inspiration on how some people handle their moleskine as an organizer.

I agree with Clem’s suggestion as well. Personally, I just use iCal on my MacBook, and as it syncs to my iPhone I’m good to go :D

I swear by my Moleskine. I was outraged at how pricey they are, but you can find some good deals online. And Clem is right; the 18 month planners just started. You can find the format to a weekly one here: http://www.moleskineus.com/moleskine-18-month-large-hard-cover.html

They come in different sizes. The pocket was too small for me, so I use a large. It’s not really all that big and I’m able to carry it around in my purse. You can see what people do with their Moleskines (and non-Moleskine) organizers here: http://livejournal.com/community/organizers

I’ve been using Moleskines for a while now and I can’t use any other kind. It’s worth the money you pay for if you’re a person who needs organization in your life. I forget things quite easily, and my Moleskine has never let me down so long as I don’t forget to write something down. :-)

I agree that a Moleskine is a great choice! They’re very durable and that’s generally a good thing when it’s getting tossed in your backpack. Like Manda, I use iCal on my MacBook because it contains my life and comes just about everywhere with me anyway. But a Moleskine is definitely a good choice if you want something handwritten.

Haha, wow, I’ve never even heard of Moleskine… I just use the planner that I get from the university I go(now went since I’ve graduated) to. It’s the same style as the one I’ve used in high school, so I was used to it. It’s a daily planner, and even though I don’t have much, it’s really helpful.

You could also buy a plain Moleskine notebook and make your own. http://www.rohdesign.com/weblog/archives/001850.html

That way you not only have a Moleskine, but it’ll be much more personalized. :-)
